Hosea's Marriage and Symbolic Children

Hosea 1:1-2:1

1
Chapter 1
1 The word of the LORD that came to Hosea son of Beeri in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel. 2 The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea. The LORD said to Hosea, "Go, take for yourself a wife of prostitution and children of prostitution, for the land will prostitute itself from the LORD." 3 He went and took Gomer daughter of Diblayim, and she conceived and bore a son to him. 4 And the LORD said to him, "Call his name Jezreel, for yet a little while and I will appoint the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and I will cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease." 5 And it will be on that day, and I will break the bow of Israel in the Valley of Jezreel. 6 She conceived again and bore a daughter. He said to him, "Call her name No Compassion, for I will no longer have compassion on the house of Israel. I will utterly forgive them no more." 7 I will have compassion on the house of Judah, and I will save them by the LORD their God. I will not save them by bow or sword or war, by horses or riders. 8 And she weaned her—no, her womb—and she conceived and bore a son. 9 And he said, "Call his name Not-My-People, for you are not my people, and I will not be to you."

Chapter 2
1 And the number of the sons of Israel will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered. And it will be in the place where he says to them, "You are not my people," he will say to them, "Sons of the living God."
